June 28, 2018 by Nicole Collins Salty sweet takes a turn for the cheesy today! Ok, so you guys should know by now that I have some weird habits. And, I’m sure you’ve also figured out by now that I enjoy some strange eating combos, as well. For example, I like to mix things that don’t necessarily go together at first thought. Growing up, one of my favorite snacks was fritos dipped in sour cream. My friend and I used to play in her basement with a bag of fritos and a tub of sour cream next to us at all times. Let's pretend it's like nachos without all of the toppings. I've also told you that I love to shove Oreos and potato chips in my mouth at the same time. That's how we ended up with these
June 25, 2018 by Nicole Collins I know calling anything the BEST of something is a big statement. But, when my friend asks me every time I see her to make her something that I've only made her twice maybe 7 or 8 years ago, I'd say that's some solid supporting evidence that something is the best. In the early days of my last job, we used to have marketing days at the branch. We'd go out and try to solicit business from other businesses in our neighborhood. But, when you go out every Wednesday and there's only a certain radius that you can work in, you start to run out of places to go. So, every now and then, my friend and I would go marketing for a little bit, and then we'd come back to my ho
June 22, 2018 by Nicole Collins I'm sharing another dirty little secret with you today. I don't know why I continue to tell you all of the less flattering things about me. But I must admit, it's kind of freeing! In all honesty, my confession today is really not as juicy as calling it a “dirty little secret” may imply. Sorry if I built you up to thinking you were getting the good gossip today. I'll make up for it by giving you the good noms instead. So, here is my confession of the day...I eat like crap on the weekends. Total caca. I snack on junk, and junk, and junk, and junk which usually results in me gaining a few pounds every weekend (that thankfully I lose over the course of the week).
June 18, 2018 by Nicole Collins Sugar free doesn’t have to equal flavor free. I feel like sugar free foods can get a bad rep sometimes. They get accused of not tasting very good or having a funny aftertaste. And, just like everything else in this world these days, the artificial sweeteners are going to kill us all some day. As if we were going to live forever if we didn’t eat all the bad things… I am very blessed to not have any food intolerances. Accept for my extreme hatred of anything orange, I don’t have any food restrictions. There are not any foods out there that would betray me and hinder my health. And, I thank my lucky stars for that every day. But, that’s not the case for all of th
June 16, 2018 by Nicole Collins Food on a stick is so much fun! I mean, it's portable. It's adorable. And, it's always delicious. You can't go wrong with that! I feel like there can be a little danger involved when it comes to food on a stick. The probability of stabbing yourself on multiple body parts is much higher. But, I generally walk away with few enough scars to make it worth it. Haha...I kid, I kid. I've NEVER hurt myself on skewered food. At least not that I'd admit to. :-) Either way, you just can't deny the fun foods you can find on a stick. Desserts. Fruits. Kabobs. There's this restaurant in our city that serves like 30 different kinds of meat right to you at your table, and the
June 12, 2018 by Nicole Collins Sometimes my quirks can make my art a little difficult. I don't know if I should point this out to you or not, but I'm going to. Because, I'm oddly proud of it. Embrace what makes you special, right? So, I want you guys to notice the spacing on the plate in my pics of today's recipe. Not one thing is touching. And, that is absolutely on purpose. Why? Because, I wouldn't eat it if anything on the plate touched something else. And, I have to eat everything I make, because I'm sure as heck not gonna throw away good (and delicious) food. But, I have this issue that things on my plate can't touch; UNLESS, I have decided that the items belong together. Like, when th
June 8, 2018 by Nicole Collins I've talked to you before about how I find inspiration in the strangest places. Today's recipe is one of those recipes. So, I was cleaning out the fridge on trash day this week when I saw some cheese in the drawer with a little blue spot on it. While I was in the cheese drawer grabbing that block of past due pepperjack, I figured I better dig through and make sure there wasn't anything else in there that had met its maker. That's when I stumbled across an unopened pack of muenster cheese. Now, I buy muenster cheese all of the time. But, for whatever reason, in that moment, I had a playback reel of muenster cheese related childhood memories flash through my brai
June 4, 2018 by Nicole Collins Sometimes, you've just gotta do what you gotta do. And, if that involves grilling at 10 o'clock in the morning, than that's just what it is. You see, it's been raining for like ever here in Baltimore. It's been doom and gloom central. I don't know how people live in places where the sun barely comes out. Because, I think this icky weather is miserable! I haven't mowed my yard in weeks. I can't see poor little Charlie anymore when he goes out in my backyard, because it's that overgrown. For the few hours that we've gotten where it actually stops raining, I still can't mow my grass because of the pond that accumulates at the bottom of my hill. But, since it never
