You guys ready to do this Superbowl thing?

I am!

And, by “do this Superbowl thing”, I mean eat all the food. Nothing else. I couldn’t even tell you who’s playing. It’s a football game, right?

Oopsie doopsie, Boopsie! (<--that’s what I say to little Boo.)

I am definitely one of those people that “watches” the Superbowl for the social aspect of the occasion. I do enjoy the special commercials. I don’t usually even care about the halftime show, though I am really looking forward to seeing J Lo perform this year. I love everything about J Lo. Other than that, you’ll typically find me at the food table chowing down, drinking beer, and chatting with the bestie while her hubs pretends to watch the game.

Food, beer, and friends sounds like the perfect evening to me! And, I usually head home after half time, so I’m still in bed at a reasonable time.

Our menus are always stacked with bite sized sammies and dipping situations, but this year I’ve got a new bite to bring to the table. And, that’s what I’m sharing with you today.

So today, we’re making Crabby Garlic Crostini!

First of all, let me just get this YUM sensation out of my system. Because, these are YUM with a capital YUM!

This recipe is super simple. We’re basically making little garlic breads out of sliced baguette and topping it with creamy crab dip. That’s it! And, of course there’s cheese.

To start, we’re going to take a store bought baguette, and slice it into ½ inch thick slices. Then, we brush it with a mixture of butter, garlic powder, and parsley. And, off to the oven it goes to start to crisp up just a little.

While the bread goes through round one of baking, we can put together our crab dip mix. This is the basic crab mix for almost everything thing crab dip related you see here. Fresh crab meat, cream cheese, and Old Bay get mixed together for the ultimate heavenly treat. Normally, I’d top the dip with cheddar cheese. But this time, I mixed it right in to the crab dip mix. Once the dip is ready, we schmear some on top of our garlic toasts, and back to the oven they go!

What we’re left with when these are finished baking is heaven in your mouth. Crispy on the outside. Fluffy in the center. Creamy on top. Garlicky, cheesy, and crabby deliciousness all at one time. These handheld bites are a real treat.

And, they’re the PERFECT addition to your game day spread! They make a bunch and they don’t require much effort at all.

Somebody should really give me a fancy, expensive ring as MVP of the food table!

Crabby Garlic Crostini

Serves: about 20 crostini Print

Ingredients:

  • ½ of a french baguette, sliced into ½ inch slices

  • ½ stick (4 tbsp) unsalted butter, melted

  • ½ tbsp garlic powder

  • ½ tbsp dried parsley flakes

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ lb (8 oz) lump crab meat, picked through for shells

  • 2 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1 tsp mayonnaise

  • ¾ tsp Old Bay seasoning

  • ¼ cup shredded cheddar

  • olive oil cooking spray

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a large baking try with aluminum foil. Spray with olive oil cooking spray. Arrange baguette slices on prepared baking sheet. Set aside.

  2. In a mixing bowl, mix melted butter, garlic powder, parsley, and salt until well combined. Brush butter mix on each bread slice. Bake for 7-8 minutes until the bread just starts to toast.

  3. Meanwhile, in a separate mixing bowl combine cream cheese, crab, mayonnaise, old bay, and cheddar cheese. It's easiest to mix with your hands until well combined.

  4. After the baguette slices have been in the oven for 7-8 mins, remove and top each slice with about 1 tbsp of the crab mix. Place back in the oven for another 7-8 mins until the crab dip has been warmed through and the bread is golden. Serve immediately.

Recipe notes:

*If you have it available in your area, get fresh crab meat and not crab or krab in a can. You can really taste the difference in the quality of the seafood.

*This recipe could be easily doubled if you want to use up the whole baguette.

*I highly recommend getting your hands dirty and mixing the crab mix with your hands instead of a spoon. That's how we've always done it in my family, and it helps the crab and cream cheese really incorporate together.
