Peanut Butter Doggie Donuts

July 6, 2019 by Nicole Collins

Today, we're celebrating the birthday boy in a bow tie!

That's right...Mr. Bisco Davis is officially two years old!

Though honestly, I think it's VERY possible that he's already been deep in his terrible twos for some time now based on his extra naughty behavior.

You see, since Bisco is a rescue; I don't know when his actual birthday is. So, I had to make one up for him. I'm actually a few weeks late getting this post up, but my boy celebrated his birthday on June 19.

I gave this puppy boy the name Bisco, because of his coloring. To me, he looks like ALL of the cookies, so Bisco is actually short for Nabisco. Nabisco was founded on June 19, 1898. When, I adopted Bisco back in January, the rescue estimated he was between 1-2 years old. So, a June birthday would have made him 1 ½ yrs old (which is between 1-2), and it couldn't have been more perfect that his namesake was founded in June.

Plus, I REALLY wanted to make sure he got a birthday party this year, so I didn't want to make his “gotcha” date his birthday (like MANY people suggested).

So, June 19, 2017 is his official birthday from here on out!

Every year, I always make a special treat and throw a little party for the puppers; and I couldn't wait to do the same for Bisco. Based on some of his behaviors, I can only assume that no one has ever loved him enough to do anything special for him. So, I had to make sure my boy had a great day.

Now, Bisco is a simple boy. There are a few things that this guy lives for: toys (especially his Kong bone and his donut toys), morning hugs, and peanut butter.

So, I made sure my guy had plenty of all three on his birthday this year. And, that brings us to today's recipe.

Today, we're making Peanut Butter Doggie Donuts!

Bisco is my soulmate in the fact that we are both peanut butter junkies. But, he might even love it more than me. I can't even reach my hand in the pantry without him running to my side thinking I'm grabbing the jar of peanut butter for him. And, if I just want a spoonful of peanut butter for myself? Forget it. He sits like a good boy, looks me dead in the eyes, and “puppy dog eyes” me until I share my spoon with him.

So, there was no doubt that his birthday treat would be a peanut butter one!

This is a super simple 5 ingredient recipe that also just so happens to be grain free! All of the ingredients are doggie safe, and they're normal enough for dog mommy and daddies to enjoy this treat with their babies.

We start with an extra ripe banana. Mash it well, then add lots of peanut butter, an egg, a smidge of honey, and a little baking soda. Blend it all together with a hand mixer, then pipe it into a donut pan, and bake.

That's it! Super simple.

When our doggie donuts finish baking, we can pop them out of the pan, transfer them to a cooling rack, and allow them to cool completely. Then after the donuts are finished cooling, we're going to give them another hit of peanut butter by drizzling some melted peanut butter right on top.

I thought about adding some crumbled bacon either to the batter or to the topping for these donuts (or both), and I know that would make these even more pleasing to our four legged friends. But, my guy loves peanut butter so much, I wanted that to be the star of the show for him. But, if you have some extra cooked bacon to spare, I bet your babies would love you for it!

Both doggies practically took my fingers off trying to get to these treats I had for them, so I'd say they were a hit with the pups. And like I said, these are totally normal, healthy ingredients; so you can actually share in this snack with your little ones, too! These donuts come out moist and scrumptious without being overly sweet. And, you really can't go wrong when peanut butter is involved!

I mean, he was licking the plate clean getting every last drop of peanut butter.

Alright guys, now that you're on cuteness overload with all these pics of Mr. Stud Muffin today, it's time to send us all on our way. Give your fur babies an extra hug for me today!

That's all I've got today. Enjoy; and let's eat...WOOF!

Peanut Butter Doggie Donuts

Serves: 6 Print

Ingredients:

  • 1 very ripe banana, mashed

  • ½ cup + 1 tbsp peanut butter, divided

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • cooking spray

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a donut pan with cooking spray. To a mixing bowl, add banana, ½ cup peanut butter, egg, honey, and baking soda. Use a hand mixer to beat well until fully combined. Transfer mix to a ziploc bag or piping bag with the tip cut off. Pipe batter evenly into donut pan. Bake for 10-12 mins until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Transfer donuts to a cooling rack to cool completely.

  2. When donuts have cooled completely, microwave 1 tbsp peanut butter in a small microwave safe bowl for 15-30 seconds until melted. Drizzle peanut butter over donuts. Allow peanut butter to set for about 15 mins. Serve!

Recipe notes:

*These donuts are not only doggie friendly, but dog moms and dads can enjoy them too!

*If you want to make these EXTRA special for your babies, you could add some chopped bacon on top of the drizzled peanut butter or even in the batter itself. You'll only need 1 or 2 strips of cooked, crumbled bacon.

*You could certainly spoon the batter into the donut pan, but it is SO much easier to use a bag to pipe the batter into the donut molds.

*Leftovers are best stored in the fridge.

*This is the donut pan I use.
